Why FIRST?
The idea of starting a blog has been bugging me for quite a long time. Always finding its way onto my to-do list and always being the first item crossed out. Not crossed off (as in completed), crossed out (as in, no way do I have time for this)!
Then, just the other day, as my youngest was off at work (her first part-time job!), and my hubby and I were chilling in the living room doing a whole lot of nothing, he said to me...man, do we need to find some hobbies!
Hey! I have hobbies! I play tennis and I was just getting ready to re-boot my furniture flipping obsession. I love to cook and read and travel and shop (does shopping count as a hobby?). Yet, something was missing. Then, there it was again.... this blog idea. Maybe I was looking for a way to keep busy and connect with the world. Whatever the case, I just felt like the time was right to give this blog thing a go!
What was originally going to be a just a baking blog quickly expanded into a general life/style blog. Being a jack-of-all trades (master of none?), I just knew eventually, I'd swerve into other areas of interest so why not just start there. I'd start a blog that would allow me the freedom to explore and share all my interests while forcing me to take a risk, go far outside my comfort zone and wade deep into the social media waters (cue the Jaws theme song).
So, I would need a name! After HOURS of indecisive contemplation, I kept coming back to FIRST. Let me explain. In my house, whenever I cook a dish, I always hover waiting for my husband or kids to take the "first bite"! They would always tease me and say that if I ever opened a restaurant, I should call it First Bite! Well, a restaurant won't be happening, but I thought that would make a good name for a baking blog. Then, when it went from a baking blog to a general life/style blog, I decided to drop Bite and just go with FIRST.
So, dear readers, it begins! This will be a FIRST for all of us. I hope you will enjoy it, learn from it, share it, grow with it and become part of it. Let's see what we can create together.
